Guillermo Varela

Guillermo Varela is a defender currently playing in Manchester United’s Under-21 team.

Youth career

Guillermo signed for Manchester United in the summer of 2013 from Peñarol following a successful trial with the first team. Although he's yet to feature at senior level for the club, his performances for the Under-21 side during the 2013/14 season have been of a high and increasingly improving standard. In January 2014 he was given compassionate leave due to his parents being involved in a car crash in Uruguay.

He joined Real Madrid on loan for the 2014/15 season and will play for their Castilla team.

International

Guillermo has represented Uruguay at Under-17 and Under-20 levels.
