Youth career
Upton joined Wolves from Burton Albion at fifteen. He has been described as a "strong-tackling midfield player". However, when he made his debut for the U21s on 9 January 2015 it was as a central defender alongside Ashley Carter. The match was at Molineux, the opposition was West Brom, and he got a clean sheet as the game finished 0-0.
