Youth career
Manchester City signed Benjamin from Velez Sarsfield in the summer of 2016 in a controversial deal that was eventually settled by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. They had completed the transfer on the understanding that he had an Italian passport and was therefore able to complete a cross-confederation transfer before the standard age of 18, but Velez claimed that the passport alone was not enough to allow the transfer to progress.
City won their argument and, after a protracted spell awaiting international clearance, he eventually made his Under-18 debut in April 2017 against Chelsea.
