Youth career

Tom is a centre back who's come through the Academy system at Manchester United. Although naturally a centre back, he's able to play as a holding midfielder. He captained the side to 2010/11 FA Youth Cup success and is the natural candidate to captain the Under-21 side too.

Tom started the 2013/14 season with Manchester United's Under-21 side but joined Birmingham City on loan at the end of January 2014. Unfortunately the loan spell was cut short by injury on two occasions with him rejoining Manchester United for treatment both times. Having had his injury problems in the past, it was a real blow for Tom given his need for a loan spell.

Tom was included on the bench for the first team away to MK Dons in the 2014/15 League Cup 2nd Round defeat but was unused. He made his long awaited first team debut coming on as a substitute in the 94th minute for Angel di Maria on 27th September as United hosted West Ham. A bad injury saw him miss a couple of months towards the end of 2014 but he continued to captain the Under-21 side on his return.

International

Tom has represented England at Under-16, Under-17, Under-18, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 levels. He was appointed captain of the England Under-19 squad for his group.
