Scott Sellars is currently the Under-21 Head Coach at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Season 2015-16 is his second in the post.

Playing career

Sellars played more than five hundred league games in a twenty year playing career (1983 - 2003), much of it spent in the top division. More than two hundred of these appearances were for Blackburn Rovers, with more than a hundred for Bolton Wanderers and solid stints also at Newcastle United and Leeds United. He was primarily a left-sided midfielder.

Managerial/Coaching career

With his playing career over, Sellars spent a year or so as assistant manager at Chesterfield, and then became Under-18 coach at Sheffield United, where he worked with players such as Matt Lowton, Kyle Walker and Kyle Naughton. In October 2009 he moved to Manchester City’s academy, where he stayed for almost five years, eventually heading up the entire academy coaching structure. His departure towards the end of the 2013-14 season is described by some sources as a sacking, but other sources suggest that he left by mutual consent after turning down an alternative position. Either way, the club were revamping their academy and Sellars left. By the start of the 2014-15 season he had arrived at Wolverhampton Wanderers as U21 Head Coach.

Results were poor in that first season, with Wolves finishing bottom of the second division of the Under-21 Premier League on only 17 points from 22 games. There was an eight month period without a single win. On the other hand, Dominic Iorfa and Kortney Hause were both successfully passed forwards to the first team and several other players went out on loan.
