Mason's father was both a player and manager in non-league football. Niall arrived at Southampton in November 2012, and has completed a scholarship there. In April 2015 he played in some [[Aston Villa Under-21s]] and [[Aston Villa Under-18s|Under-18]] matches, possibly on a trial.
