His relatively late breakthrough into youth team football owed much to a long-term injury suffered a season earlier but he made up for lost time by slotting into the FA Youth Cup squad at the Semi Final stage and retaining his place at centre-back all the way to lifting the trophy.

He was named as Under-18 captain ahead of the 2014-15 campaign and played extremely well in the first half of the season, leading to a promotion to the Under-21 squad on a full-time basis. At the heart of the FA Youth Cup and 2014-15 UEFA Youth League successes, he earned rave reviews and joined the first team squad on a post-season tour of Thailand and Australia.

Andreas Christensen's departure on loan meant Jake was promoted to the first-team squad on a permanent basis in 2015-16 but he continued to feature extensively at youth level, captaining a victorious FA Youth Cup side to a third consecutive success and ensuring that he and Jay Dasilva became part of a select group of just seven players to ever win three Youth Cups.
