Playing career
Frans had a brief professional playing career with Heerenveen in his native Netherlands before later finishing his playing days at amateur level.
Managerial career
Since hanging up his boots, de Kat has had coaching roles with ADO Den Haag, Willem II and the Dutch national women's side, as well as the men's Under-15s and Under-16s. In the summer of 2014, he was handed the youth team manager's job at Arsenal following the appointment of fellow Dutchman Andries Jonker as the club's new Academy manager.
