Youth career

Reece joined Manchester United from Preston North End in the summer of 2012 after an impressive trial. He is the younger brother of former Manchester United player, Matty James.

Reece is a left back but capable of covering at left wing or central midfield. He joined Carlisle United in the summer of 2013 on loan but it was cut short due to injury. He returned to become a key member of the Manchester United Under-21 side, captaining the team on various occasions and making as many appearances as any other player in the 2013/14 season.

Reece was rewarded for a strong 2013/14 season by going on the pre-season tour with the first team to America in the summer of 2014. He scored his first goals for the club in the opening game of the tour but an injury limited his playing time. He was named on the bench for the first team for their opening Premier League games of the season and made his debut away to MK Dons in the 2nd Round of the League Cup.

In November 2014, Reece joined Rotherham United on loan and returned to Manchester United in mid-January 2015. Having captained the Manchester United U-21 side on occasions, he joined Huddersfield Town on loan at the end of March 2015 for the remainder of the season.
