Playing career
Beardsley's playing career spanned twenty-one years and many clubs. He played for England 59 times, scoring 9 goals.
Managerial career
His coaching has all been at Newcastle, apart from a brief role as assistant to Howard Wilkinson while he was caretaker manager of the England team. Beardsley's title and remit has changed backwards and forwards, including a brief stint in caretaker charge of the first team, a period of a year or two not at the club at all and a return for media duties leading to a renewal of his coaching job.
