Youth career
Pierluigi signed for Manchester United from Fiorentina in the summer of 2011. His time at the club was interrupted by various long-term injuries but a good run in 2012/13 showed signs of progress in his all-round game.
He failed to make an appearance for the Manchester United Under-21 side in the 2013/14 season and turned down a new contract in order to move on a free transfer to Hellas Verona in July 2014.
International
Pierluigi has represented Italy at Under-18 and Under-19 level, including being given the captaincy.
