Youth career
Rafael joined Manchester City from Sporting Lissabon in the summer of 2014. He was loaned out to Real Massamá in January 2016 and joined Liverpool in the following summer. He made his Under-18 debut for Liverpool in a 2-1 away win over Manchester United on 20 August, 2016.
International
Rafael has represented Portugal at Under-16 level.
