Youth career
José was brought to Eastlands from Real Madrid in early 2012, around the time he was turning 16, and went on to earn a nomination for City's Academy Player of the Year award in 2012/13, his first full season at the club. He was the top goalscorer for the Under-21s that campaign, despite playing against opponents generally five years his senior.
