Youth career

Charni joined Manchester United in the summer of 2010 from Antwerp. He originally joined as a winger but settled on left back as his preferred position. Over time his game has become most suited to central midfield, able to hold or go box-to-box. In the 2012/13 season his performances saw him become an integral part of the Manchester United Under-21 side.

Charni started the 2013/14 season in the Manchester United Under-21 side but in January 2014 he was loaned to Carlisle United. He wasn't a regular at Carlisle and so United recalled him in March 2014 to help bolster the thin Under-21 squad. He finished the Under-21 campaign having to cover at centre back, a position he sometimes played in his youth.

International

Charni has represented Belgium at Under-19 level.
