Youth career
Joe joined Liverpool's Academy at the age of nine and featured regularly at Under-18 and Under-21 level both as a left-back and as a centre-back after making his Under-18 debut in 2002. He was involved in a charity match at Anfield on 29 March, 2015, holding his own against the likes of Luis Suárez and Fernando Torres. On 11 July, 2015, it was announced that he would join Liverpool's first team on their pre-season tour of Thailand, Australia and Malaysia.
He left Liverpool for Fleetwood Town on 13 January, 2017.
