Rob Edwards is the Under-18 Head Coach at Wolverhampton Wanderers. He is in his first season in the post. In recent weeks he has been operating as first-team defence coach, with Sean Parrish taking over the Under-18s, but it is not yet clear whether these are temporary measures or longer term changes.

Playing career

Edwards was chiefly a central defender. Although he played a few games for Aston Villa in the Premier League at the start of his career, and one for Blackpool at the same level to end his career, the majority of his games were at Championship level, the second tier. The club he played most games for was Wolves, where he spent four seasons. Although born in Shropshire (and despite playing for England at youth level) he represented Wales in fifteen senior internationals between 2003 and 2006. He qualified for Wales through both parents, and in fact his father, Alan, had represented Wales at under-18 level.

Managerial career

On 11 October 2013 Edwards announced his retirement as a player, at the age of 30. He spent most of the next year improving his coaching qualifications while also doing work for two academies: Manchester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers. In July 2014 he was appointed to his current position as Head Coach of the Wolves U18 squad.
